Natural Beauty and Historical Legacy
Characterized by lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and winding rivers, Ratanakiri is a nature lover’s dream. During the 1960s, this secluded region served as a stronghold for the Khmer Rouge, with Pol Pot himself spending significant time here.

One of the province’s highlights is Boeng Yeak Loam, a volcanic crater lake located near the provincial capital Ban Lung. The lake’s clear, cool waters are perfect for a rejuvenating swim, especially at sunset when the sky blazes with fiery hues.

Tribal Culture in the Kreung Villages
A river journey along the Ton Le San River reveals the hidden Kreung villages, known for their traditional stilt houses, distinctive cemeteries, and ancient courtship rituals. Here, carved wooden effigies adorn burial grounds, and young men and women reside in separate huts as part of age-old customs.

Ratanakiri is also home to a diverse mix of ethnic minorities, including Laotian, Chinese, and indigenous tribes, creating a culturally rich environment unlike anywhere else in Cambodia.
