Welcome to Hanoi, Vietnam’s lively colonial capital. Your guide and driver will meet you outside the baggage claim at Noi Bai Airport and transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a short orientation walk. Visit the Opera House, Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, and Ngoc Son Temple. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Spend a full day exploring Hanoi. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex, including the Mausoleum and his stilt house, then see the One Pillar Pagoda and Presidential Palace. Continue to the Temple of Literature, Quan Thanh Temple, Tran Quoc Pagoda, and either the History or Ethnology Museum. Enjoy a traditional water puppet show before dinner at a top Hanoi restaurant. In the evening, board the overnight train to Lao Cai.

Arrive early in Lao Cai. Your guide and driver will take you on a scenic 40km drive to Sapa. After breakfast, start your trek through the market and down to Cat Cat Village, home of the Black Hmong people. See local crafts, a waterfall, and a hydroelectric station. Return to town in the afternoon and relax.

After breakfast, head to Muong Hoa Valley. Trek through rice terraces and visit the villages of Lao Chai (Black Hmong) and Ta Van (Zay minority). Continue to Topas Ecolodge in Su Pan, set atop two scenic hills in the Sapa Valley.

Trek to Lech Village, crossing the Thanh Kim River and enjoying scenic valley views. Visit the village before returning to the ecolodge for lunch and check-out. Return to Sapa for free time, then transfer to Lao Cai for dinner and your overnight train to Hanoi.

Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to Ninh Binh. Cycle through peaceful countryside to Hoa Lu, Vietnam’s 10th-century capital. Continue through limestone landscapes to Tam Coc. Enjoy lunch by the pier and take a boat trip along the Ngo Dong River. End the day with a visit to Bich Dong Pagoda.

After breakfast, drive to Halong Bay. Board your traditional junk cruise around noon. Enjoy lunch as you sail among limestone islands. Visit one of the bay’s large caves and kayak in hidden spots. Swim or relax on deck before an overnight stay on the bay.

Join an early Tai Chi session or enjoy the sunrise from the deck. After breakfast, explore more of the bay by rowboat. Cruise through Bai Tu Long Bay and have brunch on board. Disembark at Halong and transfer to Hanoi Airport for your flight home.
