Best Time to Visit the Amazon

When you should travel to the Amazon will depend on your destination as well as what you’re interested in doing.

The Amazon has a varied climate with different weather patterns (lots of rain vs. less rain), depending upon where you are traveling and how you’re going about your travel. Many parts of the Amazon can be visited at any time of year, but will have unique weather conditions (primarily dictated by rainfall) at various times of the year.

The impact of high and low water seasons also vary based on mode of travel (boat vs. on foot). It will not rain during the summer months (January – March), however, rain showers do occur most days depending on where you are traveling.

June to October is often the best time to visit the Amazon, with lower water levels, easier walking trails, and better chances to spot wildlife. December to May is also an excellent time for river cruises, when higher waters allow boats to explore flooded forests and more remote waterways.
